Stephen A. Smith has no issue with Draymond Green entering the media space, but he did want to give him a piece of advice.
Be prepared to be misquoted.
Smith is one of the most polarizing talking heads in sports media, and has gotten himself mired in plenty of controversy throughout his career. Some of those have been spurred by a clip going viral that doesn’t necessarily provide full context to comments.
The Golden State Warriors forward has his own podcast, and his candor on it has created a stir on more than one occasion already. Green is proud of his “new media” concept of players taking control of the narrative, but Smith gave him a warning about it.
“JJ (Redick) got a taste of this, to be misquoted, completely out of context” Smith said during an appearance on a crossover episode of Redick’s and Green’s podcasts. “New media, I’m laughing when you say it sometimes and it’s not that you’re wrong, it’s like, ‘He has no idea what is coming.’ Think about how this man talks now. JJ comes into First Take whining – that’s right, I said it, whining – a couple of weeks ago, ‘That was not the question and that’s not what I said.’
“I said welcome to my world. And that’s what y’all are in for, that’s all I’ve got to say.”
The rant Smith is alluding to appears to be Redick ripping ClutchPoints, Bleacher Report and other similar aggregate media sites last week on First Take.

Smith took a lighthearted tone throughout his comments, so it wasn’t too foreboding. That said, he’s certainly right that the current media/social media era is going to lend itself to things being taken out of context.
